Four-wide drag racing at zMAX Dragway... It's been around for a few years now, and it's still something that's likely to start an argument. Some fans like it; others think it's a gimmick. Photographers, on the other hand, generally don't argue about four-wide because most of them think the same way -- it's a professional pain in the behind.
As the name implies, four-wide drag racing involves four cars racing against each other at the same time. This is very different from traditional drag racing, where two cars are pitted against each other. For photographers who are trying to capture the action and tell the story of the race, four-wide presents special set of challenges.
The video below -- from CompetitionPlus, the drag racing magazine -- explains things from the photographers' point of view. I like it a lot, as you'd guess, given that I shoot drag racing from time to time. Mostly, I like it because I know most of the people in it. They're great folks.
