One of the happiest things that happened to me in 2011 was being introduced to the music of Barbara Bruckmüller. Barbara is a young Austrian composer, arranger, and conductor who's been leading a big band in Vienna for the last several years. She's been following two related paths -- reimaging the music of jazz greats and her developing own funkified, rocked-out sounds. I wish I'd stumbled across her sooner.
This reworking of Duke Ellington's great hymn is terrific. I love it. I bet that you will, too.

Thanks very much for the link, Robert.
Folks, it takes you to a wonderful performance Duke's "Such Sweet Thunder" by the well known Vienna Art Orchestra. The VAO has been a major player on the jazz scene for over 30 years.
Barbara Bruckmueller's band is evidence that a younger generation of musicians is continuing a fine tradition.

Thanks for your reply John. There a lot of great writers and big bands in Austria who are taking up the jazz tradition. As I also do with my own Orchestra:
